My favourite thing in store - the customers! There are days I get stuck on the hamster wheel at my desk piled high with paperwork and to-do lists, but then I go in one of the stores, and I see the look of wonder when people walk through the doors or get to help someone discover something new, and I remember why I am lucky to have this job.
The toy shop industry has struggled this year, what allows you to keep going strong?
My team. I have the best people around me. They work hard, they’re intelligent and innovative and we have a vision of how we want the Grasshopper toy shop to look and feel. We work closely together and we enjoy what we’re doing.
We’re all big kids at heart so tell us, what’s your favourite way to engage with your inner child?
My own kids of course! Plus, I come from a big family that’s just full to the brim with kids. Being around their childlike joy is the best way to stay young at heart.
Work helps as well, I’m surrounded by toys and the big kids that I work with!
I’m a big fan of Peter Pan and I firmly believe in the message “Never grow up.”
What drew you to working at the shop?
The job I was in before coming to Grasshopper Toys did not suit me or my needs at all and I simply wasn't happy there.
It’s a totally different environment working at Grasshopper Toys and I really feel like I can be myself here.
What is one piece of advice you’d give to anyone working or looking to work in a toy shop?
I would say the best piece of advice I can give for this type of job is to keep your childlike wonder about you.
