£ 23.95
Buckminsterfullerene (or Bucky-ball) is a spherical fullerene molecule with the formula C60. It has a cage-like fused-ring structure (truncated icosahedron) which resembles a soccer ball, made of twenty hexagons and twelve pentagons, with a carbon atom at each vertex of each polygon and a bond along each polygon edge. They were first discovered in 1985 and named after Richard Buckminster as the shape resembles the geodesic domes he developed This C60 carbon buckyball model comes with 60 atoms & 90 bonds & measures ~300mm (12") in diameter. You can combine 3 or more of these kits to build a single walled carbon nanotube. Atoms • 60 carbon atoms (black) Bonds • 100 medium links (grey, single bonds)
